Bridge Scholarship Program
Chart Your Path to Graduate School Success
Are you a junior or senior SHSU student thinking about graduate school but not sure where to start? The College of Health Sciences (COHS) Bridge Program is here to help you take that next big step.
This one-year program is designed to prepare, support, and inspire high-achieving undergraduates who are ready to explore graduate education. Through faculty mentorship, hands-on research, community engagement, and tailored academic development, you'll gain the skills and confidence to thrive in graduate or professional school.
As a Bridge Scholar, you'll also receive a $2,000 scholarship, split across the fall and spring semesters, to support your academic journey.
To make the most of this opportunity, students must:
- Attend all program meetings (Fall & Spring)
- Participate actively in faculty-mentored research
- Engage in all Bridge Program activities and events

Student Eligibility
Students must apply to the Bridge Program. Admission to the Bridge Program involves a competitive selection process. Applicants to the Bridge Program must meet the following criteria to be considered for acceptance:
- ≥60 completed credit hours, or junior/senior standing
- Majoring in a program from one of the four departments in the College of Health Sciences: Kinesiology, School of Nursing, Human Sciences, or Public Health
- Hold a minimum of a 3.0 GPA cumulative
Requirements
To apply to the COHS Bridge Program, students must provide the below information through Scholarship4Kats (COHS Bridge Program).
Required Items:
- Resume/CV
- A letter of recommendation from an SHSU faculty/staff member
- Please provide your primary phone number.
- Please provide your total family AGI
Please provide a response, in 300 words or less, to each of the following prompts:
- Describe your family and educational background.
- Describe your professional career goals.
- Describe your research interests and provide any previous experience in research.
- Identify two COHS faculty with whom you would like to work with a research project.
Provide a rationale of why you chose each person.
- What are your educational goals? Describe the graduate degree, and field of study, you would like to pursue and why.
