Meet the Dean

Dr. Ryan K. Zapalac

Dr. Ryan Zapalac serves as Dean of the College of Health Sciences at Sam Houston State University. Since joining SHSU in 2006, he has been committed to advancing programs that strengthen the health and well-being of communities across the region.

An experienced educator and scholar, Dr. Zapalac has taught courses in sport management, marketing, and event and facility operations. His research focuses on sport fan and consumer behaviors, sport marketing, psychological burnout, and Reversal Theory. He has published widely and presented nationally and internationally throughout his career.

A first-generation college graduate, Dr. Zapalac is passionate about helping students reach their goals and has served in numerous university leadership roles, including on the First-Gen Committee, Faculty Senate, and the Academic Integrity Committee. Dr. Zapalac welcomes collaboration and engagement from students, faculty, alumni, and community partners.
