Mental health matters, and as a counselor in the community, schools, hospitals, higher education, or prisons, you can make a difference in peoples’ lives! The Department of Counselor Education at Sam Houston prepares students with the knowledge, skills, and professionalism needed to succeed as counselors!

 We offer CACREP accredited degrees such as the  Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, a Master of Education in School Counseling, and a PhD in Counselor Education. The department also offers three Graduate Certificates open to students and professional counselors Play Therapy, Trauma and Loss Counseling, and Marriage, Couples, and Family Counseling.
