What is the Garrett Center?

The Eleanor and Charles Garrett Center on Transition and Disability Studies was established in 2017 to provide information, professional development, training, and resources to preservice teachers, practicing educators, students with disabilities, families, state agencies, and the community.

The Garrett Center is dedicated to supporting individuals with disabilities through education, training, and research.

What does the Garrett Center Provide?

The Garrett Center supports regional Education Service Centers, school districts, and organizations to improve outcomes for individuals with disabilities:

  • Develops resources
  • Provides training
  • Provides professional development
  • Develops programs
  • Conducts research

Pathways to Success

Do you know a student with a disability living in a rural Texas community who is planning for college and seeking support? Pathways to Success aims to connect rural Texans with disabilities to postsecondary education & employment opportunities. The Garrett Center provides individualized planning and support for:

  • Identifying trade school, college, and university opportunities
  • Enrollment
  • Funding options
  • Completion of college coursework and programs
  • Preparation for competitive employment
