Funding Opportunities

Learn more about our Graduate Assistantship as well as scholarship opportunities at SHSU.

Students in the MS program can receive up to $15,000 in total funding each academic year for the 2 year program. A graduate assistantship can provide up to $6,500 a semester for students working 20 hours a week, and up to $1,000 can be earned in scholarships each semester.

Students in the PhD program can receive up to $26,000 a year in total funding for up to 5 years. A doctoral student doing a graduate assistantship can earn up to $10,000 a semester for a 20 hour work week, on top of the $3,000 a semester scholarship funding. 

  • Funding is contingent upon maintaining academic standards and satisfactory performance in graduate assistantship duties, e.g. administrative support, laboratory maintenance, teaching assistance, and research-related tasks.
  • All financial award recipients must comply with SHSU's Academic Policies and Procedures and the Code of Student Conduct and Discipline.
  • Employment is contingent upon clearing a background check.
  • The scholarship awarded qualifies students for in-state tuition rates.
