Bearkat Volunteer Income Tax Center
Serving with Purpose
The Bearkat Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Center provides vital hands-on experience for SHSU students while supporting the community through free, high-quality tax preparation services. Our student volunteers, certified by the IRS, work under the supervision of COBA faculty and trained staff to serve individuals and families in need. The program helps students develop practical skills in accounting, communication, and public service while fostering civic responsibility and financial literacy. It’s more than tax preparation — it’s a Bearkat commitment to giving back.
