As a Mass Communication student at SHSU, students gain hands-on experience in media production, journalism, and digital storytelling. Through student-run media outlets and student organizations, you’ll build your portfolio and connections beyond the classroom.

Additional Opportunities

Mass Communication students gain hands-on experience with student-run media outlets alongside various competitions and festivals to showcase creative projects.

SHSU’s student-run radio station, including its Spanish-language sister station El Gato, gives students hands-on experience in broadcasting, audio production, and live programming.

The student-run newspaper and online publication where reporters, editors, and designers collaborate to cover campus news, sports, and events while developing professional journalism skills.

An annual student-led media and film festival showcasing original films, photography, and other media projects, giving participants a platform to share creative work and gain exposure to industry feedback.

The Department of Mass Communication and SHSU’s Common Reader Program host the Annual Common Reader Film Festival, giving students the opportunity to produce and showcase short films inspired by the university’s Common Reader program.
