Lory Haas

Dr. Lory E. Haas is an Associate Professor of literacy for the School of Teaching and Learning at Sam Houston State University. She also serves as Public School Partnership Coordinator for the Center for Community Engagement. As a graduate of Huntsville High School and Sam Houston State University, Lory is passionate about supporting partnerships which bridge the community and university where she has lived and worked. She is coordinator of the S.H.A.P.E program (Sam Houston and Huntsville ISD as Partners in Education) which is a community-based program to build teacher capacity in HISD through community experiences and service learning. Her research interests include topics related to preservice teacher education and service learning, equitable literacy practices and multisensory learning, as well as visual-based literacy through photovoice experiences. Photovoice provides a method to look at communities through many lenses supporting opportunities to problem solve community and social justice issues.
