• U.S. News and World Report ranked SHSU #32 nationally as a “Top Performer on Social Mobility” among 434 ranked colleges and universities. (2025)

• Wall Street Journal ranks SHSU among the Nation’s “Best Colleges.” Of the 29 Texas universities ranked, SHSU landed in the seventh spot for colleges and universities in the state. (2025)

• Named on the list of the Best Colleges in America by Money, earning 3.5 out of 5 stars. (2025)

• SHSU ranked as a “Top 10 Military Friendly Institution” by the Military Friendly website. The new Top 10 classification represents the 2024-25 academic year and tops last year’s Silver status. For the first time, the website also designated SHSU a Top 10 institution as a “Military Spouse Friendly School.”

• Received the 2024 Veteran Education Excellence Recognition Gold Award presented by the Texas Veterans Commission for our excellence in education and related services that significantly contribute to the academic success of student veterans and military-connected students.

• SHSU opened a Security Operations Center in September through the College of Science and Engineering Technology. The center provides a cost-effective way to provide cybersecurity monitoring for SHSU and external partners.

• Federally designated as a Hispanic-Serving Institution.

• Designated a Doctoral University–High Research Activity by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education.
