​Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS)

​​The TEAS exam evaluates academic readiness for nursing and allied health programs with sections on reading, math, science, and English/language usage. Offered both in-person and remotely.​

​​Understanding the TEAS Exam​

​​The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) is a multiple-choice placement exam assessing readiness for nursing and allied health programs. It covers reading, mathematics, science, English, and language usage.​ 

​​In‑Person and Remote TEAS Testing​ 

You can take the TEAS either in person at the SHSU Huntsville campus or remotely at home. The exam has a 3½-hour time limit.  

​​TEAS Exam Costs​ 

  • $50.00 payable to SHSU (Testing Center fee) 
  • $70.00 payable to ATI (test provider) on test day 
    All fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. 

​​What to Bring on Exam Day​:

In-Person 

  • Arrive 15 minutes early 
  • Testers must bring the following forms of ID and information with them on test day: 
  • Valid Photo ID - may not be expired and must have photo. (Examples: Driver's license, passport, state-issued ID, military ID, student ID) 
  • Valid Secondary ID - no photo necessary. (Examples: Secondary photo ID, library card, credit/debit card) 
  • ATI login information (username and password) 
  • Valid credit card. 

 

Remote 

  • ATI will provide you with instructions regarding test day requirements for the remote environment. Generally, you should be prepared to show two forms of ID on camera, prior to testing.   

​​Accessing Scores and Retake Policy​ 

  • When testing at SHSU in-person, your scores will be available immediately upon completion of the exam.   
  • Scores for a remote exam are available in a Pending status immediately upon completion, and then officially validated 3 or less business days. 
  • There is no waiting period to retake the TEAS exam. Students may retest at any time, based on availability of the Center.
