SHSU Online is proud to announce the launch of the Distance Education Professional Development Center (DEPDC) through a new partnership with the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). The Center will serve as a statewide resource dedicated to strengthening the quality, accessibility, and sustainability of distance education across Texas Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) programs.

Through this initiative, SHSU Online will provide professional development, instructional resources, and technical support to educators and learners participating in adult education programs throughout the state. The Center is designed to help instructors confidently integrate effective distance education practices into their teaching while ensuring adult learners have reliable access to the support they need to succeed.

The DEPDC will support approximately 1,600 Adult Education and Literacy instructors and provide technical assistance for nearly 85,000 adult learners served through Texas Workforce Commission-funded programs. In addition to delivering statewide instructor training, the Center will offer technical troubleshooting and support services that help maintain continuity of learning across a diverse network of education providers.

Beyond day-to-day support, the Center will partner with the Texas Workforce Commission to advance new initiatives that expand and strengthen the role of distance education within Adult Education and Literacy programs. These efforts will focus on increasing instructional capacity, promoting effective use of educational technology, sharing best practices, and helping local providers embed high-quality distance learning into their instructional models.

As the Center continues to grow, SHSU Online looks forward to collaborating with adult education providers throughout Texas to strengthen instructional excellence and expand opportunities for learners seeking education, workforce training, and career advancement.
