Leadership In & Through Education
ELITE (Establishing Leadership In & Through Education) is an academic success program designed to support and empower students to achieve academic and personal success in college. Our program offers a range of services and resources designed to address the unique challenges that college students encounter.
Access & Retention Programs promotes academic excellence, leadership development, and a strong sense of community by fostering personal growth and meaningful campus engagement, preparing students for lifelong success.
Opportunities for students to connect with one another and build a supportive community on campus, often through social events and small groups.
Participants are paired with peer-mentors who provide academic and personal guidance and support.
Participants engage in leadership development opportunities, such as leadership training workshops, community service projects, and networking events. This engagement helps students develop the skills and confidence to become leaders on campus and in their communities.
ELITE provides students with access to essential academic resources to support their success. From scantrons, pencils, and calculators to laptops, a computer lab, and a dedicated study lounge space, these resources ensure students have the tools and environment they need to stay prepared, focused, and successful throughout their academic journey.
ELITE serves a variety of different populations of undergraduate students, including:

- First-generation students
- Students accepted through holistic & individual review

Ways to Participate

Small Groups
Structured, peer-led gatherings that provide students with a space to connect, engage, and grow alongside one another. Through guided conversations around real-life college scenarios, participants build meaningful relationships, share experiences, and develop a sense of belonging while strengthening their academic and personal success.

ELITE Exchange
A speaker series that connects students with SHSU alumni who share their personal college journeys, lessons learned, and experiences overcoming challenges. Through these conversations, students gain insight into how alumni leveraged their time at SHSU to shape their paths and achieve success in their careers, while finding inspiration and practical guidance for their own journeys.

Socials
Engaging, community-building events that bring students together in a fun, relaxed environment. From game nights and movie nights to football tailgates and more, these experiences offer students opportunities to connect, unwind, and build meaningful relationships beyond the classroom.

Workshops
Collaborative learning experiences that are designed to connect students with valuable campus resources and support services. In partnership with departments such as the Academic Success Center, Career Success Center, Campus Activities & Involvement, Student Wellness, and more, these sessions provide students with practical knowledge, tools, and strategies to enhance their academic success, personal well-being, and overall college experience.
