SHSU Adds Artificial Intelligence Track to Master’s Program

As artificial intelligence becomes a bigger part of our daily lives and workplaces, the need for cybersecurity professionals who can use these technologies is on the rise. To help meet this demand, Sam Houston State University’s Department of Computer Science is launching a new artificial intelligence track in its Master of Science in Cybersecurity program.

This new track builds on SHSU’s strong foundation in cybersecurity education and its recognition as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense by the National Security Agency. Students in the MS in Cybersecurity program can now choose to focus on artificial intelligence, combining core cybersecurity courses with advanced studies in AI and machine learning. This approach prepares graduates to use the latest technologies for threat detection, stronger security and managing today’s complex cyber challenges.

“Through hands-on research projects, laboratory experiences and industry-relevant applications, students learn how to apply AI techniques to detect threats, automate security operations and strengthen cyber defenses,” said Bing Zhou, chair of the Department of Computer Science. “As AI continues to transform both cyberattacks and cyber defense, graduates will be well positioned to drive innovation and lead cybersecurity initiatives in government, industry and research.”

Adding the AI track reflects SHSU’s ongoing commitment to preparing graduates for the changing needs of the cybersecurity workforce. Today’s employers, from government agencies to private companies, are looking for professionals who can protect digital systems, respond to security incidents and keep up with new threats. The M.S. in Cybersecurity offers just that by providing advanced training in network security, digital forensics, incident response and the latest security tools.
