Regents Approve Forensic Training Center Construction, Among Other Items 

During its regular quarterly meeting on Aug. 6-7, the Texas State University Board of Regents approved the addition of Phase One of the construction of the Forensic Training Center to the 2027-2032 Capital Improvements Program. Other items that were approved are as follows: 

Academics: 

• Approved the 2026-27 core curriculum inventory, which was in accordance with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board’s requirements and Texas Education Code §51.315 

• Approved 22 faculty-led study abroad course trips; locations include Spain, Germany, Vietnam, Ireland, France, Japan, Costa Rica, Mexico and Taiwan 

Planning and Construction 

• Approved the addition of Phase One of the Forensic Training Center, a 5,400-square-foot facility supporting the Southeast Texas Applied Forensic Science Facility.   

• The proposed building will include a multipurpose training and briefing room, field equipment storage areas, heavy equipment garage and office space for faculty and staff  

• Site improvements will secure restricted-access areas designed to support mass casualty incident simulations, disaster response exercises and applied research activities 

• Approved the addition of the College of Osteopathic Medicine Multipurpose Building 

• The approximate 12,000-square-foot facility will offer flexible instructional, testing and event space to support full-cohort activities  

Finance Items 

• Authorized the execution of a contract with AHI Facilities Services, Inc. for custodial services at select SHSU facilities in Huntsville, Conroe and The Woodlands 

• Authorized the execution of a contract with OUTFRONT Media Inc. for the construction and operation of at least two large-format billboard structures along Interstate 45 in Huntsville and Conroe  

All academic program changes are to be implemented upon final approval by the TSUS Board of Regents, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, as applicable.
