SHSU Expands Official Rings to Connect Bearkats to Their Legacy
Sam Houston State University is enhancing one of its most cherished traditions by adding six new styles to the official SHSU Ring Program.
As the student body expands and grows over the years, so do traditions. While the classic SHSU ring will forever represent the SHSU Ring Program, the expanded collection offers greater customization to honor the individual journey of each Bearkat.
“Expanding the SHSU Ring Collection provides students access to more variety and uniqueness for each individual,” said Lindsay Lauher, director of membership and engagement for the SHSU Alumni Association. “We don’t want to lose a student’s participation in this tradition just because a traditional ring doesn’t fit their unique style.”
While the designs are new, something that every SHSU ring will always include is the word “Honor” engraved on the inside of every SHSU Ring. Honor is a key tenet of General Sam Houston’s story and represents every step of a student’s journey - as it reflects the effort it takes to earn the ring, the families who supported the journey, the faculty and staff who invest in each student and the legacy passed on to future Bearkats.
“The SHSU Ring has always been more than jewelry; it’s a story of perseverance and pride. It is a tremendous milestone in a student’s educational journey towards their ultimate goal of graduation,” said Charlie Vienne, executive director of the SHSU Alumni Association.
With increasing participation over the years, and widespread enthusiasm, SHSU and the SHSU Alumni Association continue to elevate tradition, ensuring that every Bearkat ring carries the honored tradition, the weight of history, the pride of achievement and the promise of a strong future.
“We want every SHSU student to reward their journey with an SHSU ring,” Vienne said. “The SHSU Ring serves as an outward symbol to the world of what a treasure it is to be a Bearkat. It’s a physical reminder of SHSU’s legacy, as well as the pride and tradition that characterizes each student’s unique educational journey.”
The expanded SHSU Ring Collection debuts in January 2026. View the SHSU Ring website for ordering information and FAQs.
