SHSU Professor Marcus T. Boccaccini Receives TSUS Regents’ Professor Award

Sam Houston State University psychology professor Marcus T. Boccaccini has been named a Texas State University System Regents’ Professor, the highest academic honor bestowed by the TSUS Board of Regents.

Each year, the Board of Regents recognizes outstanding faculty whose teaching, scholarship and service exemplify excellence across the System. Recipients hold the title throughout their tenure within the System and are formally honored during the November Board of Regents meeting, where they receive a $10,000 award, commemorative medallion and Board resolution.

The designation highlights Boccaccini’s distinguished record as an educator, researcher and mentor, along with his significant contributions to SHSU and the field of psychology.

Since joining the SHSU faculty in 2003, Boccaccini has taught undergraduate, master’s and doctoral courses, consistently earning high student evaluations. He is known for integrating empirical research with real-world examples to create a highly engaging learning environment. He has chaired 25 doctoral dissertations and 19 master’s theses.

A prolific scholar, Boccaccini has published approximately 140 peer-reviewed journal articles, co-authored a book and delivered more than 200 conference presentations. He has served in editorial roles for leading journals, including Psychological Assessment and Law and Human Behavior. His research has received more than $350,000 in grant support.

He also played a pivotal role in securing American Psychological Association accreditation for SHSU’s doctoral program in clinical psychology, strengthening the university’s national standing in the discipline.
