Use Data to Solve Problems and Drive Better Decisions

The Statistical Methods Minor at Sam Houston State University provides students with practical tools for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data. Designed for students who want to strengthen their analytical skills without focusing heavily on theoretical mathematics, this minor emphasizes the application of statistical techniques to real-world challenges.

What Will I Study? 

Students select six upper-level statistics courses covering topics such as statistical methods, regression analysis, statistical computing, forecasting, survey methods, Bayesian analysis and statistical learning. Special topics courses may include areas such as biostatistics and survival modeling, allowing students to explore emerging applications of statistics.

Optional Concentration Path 

Students who do not need a full minor may also pursue a 12-hour concentration in Statistical Methods. This option is designed for students seeking practical statistical skills to complement another field of study and typically includes Statistical Methods in Practice plus three additional upper-level statistics courses.
