Physical Education Teacher Education 

The Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) program at Sam Houston State University prepares students to become certified, culturally responsive physical education teachers for Pre-K through 12th grade. This double major in Kinesiology and Education provides deep content knowledge and pedagogical training grounded in national teaching standards.

This double major in Kinesiology and Education is offered in person at our Huntsville campus.​ 

Does this program provide preparation for certifications or licensures?

This double-major degree program prepares students to sit for the TExES Physical Education Certification exam. Students completing the PETE program have the opportunity to earn Sport Coaching Certification.

  • Career-Ready Graduates

    Graduates are prepared to teach Pre-K–12 PE, coach sports, and work in adapted physical education, equipped with the skills and confidence to inspire lifelong physical activity in children and youth.

  • Sport Coaching Certification

    Students completing the PETE program have the opportunity to earn Sport Coaching Certification (separate application required at graduation), preparing them to coach youth and school sports with confidence and professionalism.
