Pursue Your Excellence in Engineering

The B.S. in Engineering Technology at SHSU prepares students to implement engineering solutions by applying practical skills in design, manufacturing, and systems management. The curriculum blends theory with hands-on learning in areas like quality control, automation, and project management. Students gain experience using modern tools and technologies to solve real-world problems. Graduates are equipped for versatile roles in industries such as manufacturing, construction, and technology development, making them valuable contributors to engineering teams and operations.

What’s the Difference Between General Engineering Technology and Concentrations?

The general Engineering Technology degree offers a broad foundation in design, production, and systems management. This is ideal for students who want flexibility across industries. Those seeking a specialized path can choose a concentration in Architectural Design, Electronics, Manufacturing, Biomedical, or Environmental, Health, and Safety Management, each tailored to a specific sector of engineering and technology.

How Does Engineering Technology Differ from Engineering?

While traditional engineering programs focus on advanced theory and design, Engineering Technology emphasizes application and implementation. Students gain hands-on experience with real equipment, manufacturing tools, and management systems, preparing them for careers in operations, quality control, and applied engineering roles that connect innovation with practical execution.

ATMAE Accreditation

The Engineering Technology program is now accredited by the Association of Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering (ATMAE).

The mission of the Engineering Technology program at Sam Houston State University is to provide an educational program designed to assist students in acquiring the knowledge, skills, and experiences through which they may prepare themselves for rewarding and meaningful roles in an engineering and technology society.

The Engineering Technology program has offered degrees since its founding in 1910. Over the past 100+ years the program has evolved to meet the changing needs of business & industry. Engineering Technology majors use principles and theories of science, engineering, and mathematics to solve technical problems in research and development, manufacturing, sales, construction, inspection, and maintenance. The engineering technology program at Sam Houston State University is intended to provide students with the educational experience to meet industry management, leadership, physical sciences, technology of industry, and basic engineering for the solution of problems involving industrial products, services, materials and processes, and the supervision and management of facilities and personnel.
