The Minor in Criminal Justice provides students with insight into how the criminal justice system operates, from the processing of offenders to punishment alternatives and emerging issues shaping the future of justice administration.
Additionally, students enrolled in the Minor in Criminal Justice will gain knowledge on the major theories of crime and delinquency, as well as the effectiveness of various treatment and prevention strategies. Students will also examine the history and philosophy of law enforcement, constitutional limits on police authority, and the role of law enforcement in a democratic society.
The minor also builds a strong criminal law foundation, covering key legal concepts such as criminal responsibility, major offenses, punishments, and legal defenses, with a special focus on Texas penal law.
