Rise to Greater in Construction Management

Sam Houston State University’s B.S. in Construction Management prepares students for leadership roles in the building industry by combining technical, business, and project management skills. The curriculum covers topics such as construction planning, cost estimation, scheduling, safety, materials, and site supervision. Students gain hands-on experience with modern construction technologies and software. The program emphasizes practical learning and includes opportunities for internships, equipping graduates to manage complex construction projects in residential, commercial, and industrial sectors.

What You’ll Learn in Construction Management

SHSU’s ABET–ANSAC–accredited B.S. in Construction Management blends engineering technology, business, and design, so you learn cost estimating, scheduling, MEP systems, safety, materials, surveying, BIM, and project controls. The degree is 120 credit hours and does not require a minor (students may add one if desired). Coursework is taught in small, hands-on classes by industry-experienced faculty to prepare you to manage residential, commercial, and industrial projects.

Hands-On Labs, Internships, and Career Readiness

You’ll gain practical experience in wood, metal, and concrete labs, electrical and renewable energy spaces, and with industry-standard software for BIM and scheduling. A for-credit internship (typically junior/senior year) builds your network and résumé. Graduates are prepared for roles in field supervision, estimating, planning/scheduling, quality control, design coordination, BIM/VDC, and project management, with a strong focus on safety, leadership, and communication.
