This liberal arts degree encourages personal expression while helping you build critical thinking, communication, and collaboration skills valued across creative industries. You’ll take courses in art history, design, and studio practice while pursuing a required minor and foreign language study. The program is ideal for students who want flexibility in shaping their education and future, whether you plan to enter the workforce, attend graduate school, or apply your creativity in a wide range of careers.
What’s the Difference Between the BA and BFA in Art?
The BA in Art is a liberal arts degree that offers flexibility, includes a required minor, and requires foreign language study. It’s ideal for students who want to combine art with interests in other fields. BFA degrees are more specialized and studio-intensive, designed for students pursuing focused careers in areas like animation, photography, or studio art.
What technology will I need for this program?
All art majors must have a personal Mac laptop that meets department specifications. Your laptop is your digital studio, giving you access to creative tools anytime, anywhere. SHSU offers an Apple Purchase Program to help reduce costs, and students who qualify for financial aid may be eligible for additional assistance.
