Sam Houston State University’s Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence prepares students to build, evaluate, and apply intelligent systems across a wide range of industries. Through advanced coursework in artificial intelligence, machine learning, deep learning, responsible AI, and data-driven computing, students develop both the theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed to solve complex problems with emerging technologies.

Students will explore how AI can be applied in areas such as cybersecurity, autonomous systems, healthcare and biomedical analytics, blockchain and digital currency, computer vision and big data analytics. The program also emphasizes responsible development, including fairness, bias, interpretability, security, and the broader risks associated with AI systems.

With a 30-credit-hour, non-thesis curriculum, students gain hands-on experience through advanced coursework and a programming practicum while preparing for careers such as AI engineer, data scientist, machine learning specialist, or researcher. The degree can also provide a strong foundation for students interested in pursuing doctoral study in artificial intelligence, computer science, or related fields.

 
 
Designed for Computer Science and Related Backgrounds

The MSAI is designed for students with a background in computer science or a related field. Applicants should have preparation in programming, data structures, databases, calculus, linear algebra, and statistics. Students who are missing required prerequisite coursework may be assigned graduate STEM courses to build the necessary foundation before beginning the degree requirements.

30 Credit Hours, Online Delivery

The Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence is a 30-credit-hour, non-thesis program offered online. Students complete core coursework in artificial intelligence, AI programming, machine learning, responsible AI, deep learning, and a programming practicum, along with four prescribed electives. Elective options include neural networks, data visualization, computer vision, big data analytics, and special topics in computer science.
