The Department of Psychology and Philosophy is a vibrant community where students and faculty explore the human condition from diverse perspectives. Our undergraduate Psychology program (B.S.) serves more than 1,000 majors, along with many students pursuing minors. Our curriculum covers the full breadth of psychology— its history, basic science, applied branches, and essential research methods. Students actively participate in faculty-led labs, transforming knowledge into impactful contributions. The Psychology Club and Psi Chi Chapter foster connections and engagement through enriching activities on and off campus.

SHSU Welcomes Largest First-Time Freshman Class in University History
Sam Houston State University is celebrating a historic enrollment milestone, welcoming the largest first-time freshman class in its history for Fall 2026. As of Aug. 19, the first day of classes, first-time freshman enrollment reached 3,567 students, representing an 8.7% increase over Fall 2025.
