The charter class is admitted through the post-baccalaureate pathway. Applicants must have:

- A cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 and a prerequisite GPA of at least 3.0 (4.0 scale).
- The following prerequisite courses, each with a grade of C or higher: anatomy and physiology with lab (one course each, or a two-course A&P sequence with lab); two biological sciences (not botany); two general chemistry courses with lab; two general physics courses with lab; one psychology course; and one statistics course. Science courses must be those intended for science majors.
- At least 50 hours of physical therapy observation in two practice settings.
- Three letters of recommendation, at least one from an academic instructor.
- A personal statement.
International applicants meet the same requirements and also complete SHSU’s international admission process through the Global Engagement Center.
All students must be able to meet the program’s Essential Functions and Technical Standards, with or without reasonable accommodation. Accommodation requests go to SHSU Services for Students with Disabilities, not to the admissions committee.
An Early Assurance (3+3) pathway for SHSU students in the B.S. in Clinical Exercise Science begins with the class entering in fall 2028. It uses the same prerequisites with a minimum cumulative and prerequisite GPA of 3.3. It is not available for the charter class.
GRE Requirement
The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is not required for admission to the SHSU Doctor of Physical Therapy program.
