Staff & Faculty Profiles
Staff and Faculty Profiles at Sam Houston State University are designed to provide concise information about university personnel in an efficient, list-view format. This approach ensures easy access to essential details without the need for individually-designed profile pages. This content type will also serve student workers.
The primary purpose of employee profile pages is to provide public directory information.
Faculty and teaching staff must use the faculty setting in the profile page metadata to embed their Watermark information. Staff members who do not teach should use the staff setting on the profile page.
Employees who hold both teaching faculty and staff positions (e.g., as a professor and a dean) may have two pages, one for each type of position. Personnel may have only one profile page per position type.
Watermark Faculty Success is SHSU’s official system of record for collecting, managing, and reporting faculty activities, accomplishments, and academic contributions. Faculty members are responsible for ensuring that their information in Watermark is accurate and up to date. Faculty members designate which records will populate their faculty profiles on the SHSU website.
No employee profiles other than official university profile pages may be hosted on the SHSU website (except for the SHSU president).
Page Sections and Maintenance
Each profile page is divided into two main sections: an upper contact information section and a lower professional information section. The contact information section is maintained by the department editors for the department to which the employee belongs, ensuring that phone numbers, email addresses, and titles remain accurate and up to date.
The professional information section is managed differently depending on the employee’s role.
- For Faculty: Professional information is pulled directly from Watermark. Department editors cannot edit this content. Faculty members control what professional information appears on their website profile by selecting and maintaining it within their Watermark profile.
- For Staff: Department editors may add up to three professional information sections (such as biography, education, or other relevant details). These section types may be standardized by department or division leadership, and ongoing maintenance of this information is the responsibility of the department editors.

Key Takeaway
Website faculty & staff profiles follow a standardized format. Faculty and staff profile pages are built from a consistent template, with faculty pulling academic information directly from Watermark.
The primary purpose of the staff and faculty profile pages is to provide a public-facing employee directory listing.
