News Stories
News stories are a flexible way to share timely, relevant content on the SHSU website. They can be used for traditional news and announcements, feature articles, or student success stories that highlight the impact of your program or department. Once published, news stories can support broader marketing efforts by being shared through social media, email newsletters, or linked directly from pages across the SHSU website.
On the SHSU website, news stories can be reused and promoted in multiple ways. To feature a single article on a page, use a Callout component. To highlight multiple articles at once, use the News Block component, which can display up to three stories.
By default, news stories you create are not included in the main SHSU News listing. This allows departments, divisions, and colleges to communicate with specific audiences—such as current students, prospective students, or supporters—without needing to address the entire university.
Note: If you would like a news article to appear in the main university news listing, please submit the article to the IMC-Communications Team for review and publication.

Masthead Options

About the Masthead:
- A masthead is a traditional publishing component that displays information about the department responsible for the article.
- It typically includes:
- The department name
- A contact person or office for additional information
Best practice:
- If you plan to create multiple news stories, consider creating a reusable contact-story block for the masthead to ensure consistency and save time.
Removing a Story From All News Listings
To fully remove a news story from public listings:
- Unpublish the article.
- Open the article for editing.
- Select the Properties tab at the top of the page.
- Uncheck “Include when publishing.”
This prevents the story from appearing in any news listings and prevents it from being published again until you recheck “Include when publishing.”
