Embedded Content
How to Embed Content
The Media component allows you to embed external content, such as forms, chats, or interactive tools, directly onto your web page.
When to Use
Use the media component any time you need to add content that comes from another site and is provided as an embed script or code (for example, a chat widget or web form).
For videos, select the YouTube option in the media component — YouTube is the only approved video player for SHSU pages.
Steps to Add an Embed
- Add a Media Component
In the component list, select Media and choose Embed for the media type. - Enter the Embed Code
Copy the provided embed script or iframe code from the source and paste it into the Embed Code field. You may need to adjust the "height" settings in the code. Iframe embeds automatically spread to fit the available width.
Important: Do not add or edit any code other than the provided embed code. Extra code may break the page and will be considered a violation of SHSU web policies. - Set Placement (If Needed)
If the embed doesn’t have visible dimensions—such as a chat widget—move the media component to be the last item on the page.
Otherwise, it may appear as a blank space in the middle of the page.
Reusing Embeds Across Multiple Pages
If the same embedded content will appear on more than one page:
- Create a Media Block instead of a component.
- Select Embed as the media type and paste the embed code into the block.
- Add a Media component to each page where it’s needed, and choose Reusable Block as the content source.
- Select your saved media block.
This approach allows you to update the embed code in one place and have it update automatically everywhere it appears.
