Studio Art, Bachelor of Fine Arts

Available: On Campus

The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art provides students with a broad foundation in art and art history. Students are encouraged to experiment and cross boundaries between media as they learn design principles and basic skills through work in a variety of two-dimensional, three-dimensional, and time-based media.

Coursework

All students must complete the W.A.S.H. (Workshop in Art Studio and History) upon entering the Art Program and pass a BFA portfolio review in their sophomore year in order to continue in the BFA program.

The Studio Art Program requires students to choose between a 2-D or 3-D track and then allows them to focus on the medium of their choice, including painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, or video and performance art. Students produce a body of work throughout the program and are offered many opportunities to exhibit their work.

Each BFA track is also offered with Teaching Certification.

The Art Department requires its students to own a Mac laptop with the current version of Adobe Creative Suite. This policy allows students to be as productive as possible without the confines of class schedules and lab hours. Financial aid and SHSU discounts are available to offset the cost. Get details about financial aid and discounts for laptops.
