COVID-19 Checkup 04-22-2021

April 22, 2021

Bearkat Community,

COVID vaccinations are continuing and anyone who is eligible is encouraged to be vaccinated as doses and timelines allow. These efforts are reassuring as more Bearkats become fully vaccinated, our campus becomes safer. Today, however, we still need to remain vigilant. The COVID Work Group will monitor and actively review all aspects of our plan in the upcoming months as we look forward to a greater state of normalcy this summer and fall.

With only two weeks to go, we can do this. Let’s finish strong so we can return strong.

Can I still get a vaccine before I leave for the summer?

Yes! We encourage all Bearkats to get vaccinated before the summer break. SHSU Physicians, located at 690 S Loop 336 W, Suite 200, Conroe, currently offers the Moderna (two dose) vaccinations. For information, call 936.307.0267 or visit the SHSU Physicians website. The Walker County COVID-19 Vaccination Scheduler Application can also help you find a vaccine near you.

Q: I received the J&J Vaccine. What should I be aware of?

A: According to the CDC, if you received the Johnson & Johnson Janssen COVID-19 vaccine, your risk of having a blood clot is very low and that risk will decrease over time.

Contact your healthcare provider and seek medical treatment immediately if you develop any of the following symptoms:

  • Severe headache
  • Backache
  • New neurologic symptoms
  • Severe abdominal pain
  • Shortness of breath
  • Leg swelling
  • Tiny red spots on the skin (petechiae)
  • New or easy bruising

If you have any adverse reactions after vaccination, report them to v-safe and the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System.

COVID-19 Updates

Weekly updates of confirmed cases of COVID-19 will continue to be added to the university’s dashboard every Monday through Friday, at approximately 4:30 p.m. To see the current number of cases, visit Dashboard Updates.

REMINDER: If you received a positive COVID-19 test, please self-report your results immediately so we may ensure our dashboard is as accurate as possible.
