DEI Institute
The IDEA Institute is a Comprehensive DEI Certification Program for members of the SHSU community. This program offers a multifaceted approach to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion training on the campus.
Faculty and staff can participate in the IDEA Institute with a self-paced learning style. To sign-up for a workshop, faculty and staff must register through Talent Management.
Earn an Ally Certification
This certification track is designed to help you learn the foundations of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). Upon completion, you will earn a certificate, DEI Shirt and an invitation to an recognizantion ceremony.

Foundations in Diversity & Inclusion
The first of the core course series is designed to create better understanding of the concepts of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). This first workshop offers a foundation for defining diversity, equity and inclusion, along with the barriers and obstacles to meaningful DEI work.

Unconscious Bias
This workshop will explore unconscious and everyday bias in higher education. The presentation focuses on ways to identify and address unconscious bias for improved professional relationships and communication.

Equity vs Equality
In the third core workshop of the beginners track, participants will examine the distinct difference between equity and equality; discuss historical and ongoing inequities in higher education; and build skills for fostering equity.

Developing & Implementing Inclusive Practices
The final workshop of the ally track will examine the university environment, including space, programs and curriculum, to determine their impact on the university’s campus climate.

Students interested in the certificate program must participate through the Graduate & Undergraduate Instructor Academy (GUIA). Two workshops are facilitated for student employees and graduate assistants every fall and spring semester.
