Connor Hyde is this month’s GCJD Alumni of the Month. Hyde is currently working as a market reporter at Argus Media where his job is to research market dynamics, write market news, and assess prices for various agricultural commodities.

His career first began at Community Impact Newspaper, a hyper-local news company based in Austin with publications throughout Texas' major metropolitan areas. Hyde reported on various beats for the Sugar Land | Missouri City publication, including Fort Bend County, city government and state politics.

During his time at The Houstonian, he earned various awards through the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association.

Hyde was a student in GCJD's inaugural Academic Community Engagement workshop class and helped build the center's online resources and tools. He also traveled with GCJD to Beirut, Lebanon, during the spring 2014 semester to cover and participate in an arts and entertainment news conference.

"Kelli Arena does not accept mediocrity. Students can easily settle for complacency and normalcy. Students thrive or die at GCJD under Kelli's watch, and that's what journalism needs. She taught me to always question and dig until the well of information has been tapped. The skills I learned at GCJD are invaluable and are everlasting. Kelli does not only teach students how to be  better reporters or journalists, she also teaches them how to be respectful people ; and that is why so many GCJD alums are successful."
