GCJD Executive Director and Dan Rather Chair Kelli Arena attended the Logan Symposium in Investigative Reporting conference at Berkeley, where she participated as a mentor for journalism graduate students there.

Arena has long history of investigative reporting. Early in her career she worked on investigative reports into inside trading on Wall Street, the Dow Chemical breast implant scandal, and the Ford-Firestone tire controversy. She was also an integral part of CNN’s terrorism investigative team in the decade following the September 11th attacks.

The Berkeley conference attracts journalists from around the globe. This year, speakers tackled topics including race and class in the newsroom , new ways to tell stories and reach new audiences, and the future of non profit journalism.

“It’s always great to hear about new academic and professional developments. It helps me be a better professor and also helps me keep my fingers on the pulse of the profession”, says Arena.
