The mission of the Diversity Council is to create a positive, educational and inclusive experience for all constituents at Sam Houston State University. Through programs and the annual Diversity Leadership Conference, the Diversity council strives to educate the Bearkat community so that they may be global citizens upon graduation.
The Diversity Council is comprised of eight (8) student leaders and an advisor.
The positions available within the Diversity Council include co-executive director (2), programming director, coordinator, marketing director, secretary, historian and the outreach chair. The advisor is the Coordinator of the Center for Diversity & Intercultural Affairs (CDIA).
Applications for the Diversity Council Executive Board are made available every April.
Diversity Ambassadors are student volunteers that are interested in diversity and inclusion at Sam Houston State University. These are usually students who may not have the time to devote to being on the Diversity Council Executive Board but are still interested in assisting the Center push forth its diversity efforts and initiatives.
The Diversity Ambassadors are led by the Outreach Chair for the Diversity Council and begin meeting every September. For more information on being a Diversity Ambassador, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Students on a Quest for Unity and Diversity (S.Q.U.A.D) is comprised of five outstanding student leaders who dedicate their time to educating others about diversity and inclusion. The organization is housed under the Center for Diversity & Intercultural Affairs. These student leaders educate fellow classmates, faculty, staff and others through interactive presentations.
Some responsibilities of S.Q.U.A.D members include facilitating workshops for classes, student organizations, conferences and the community; representing the Center for Diversity & Intercultural Affairs at Sam Houston State University events and regional conferences.
