Kat 2 Kat Peer Counseling Program



The Mission of the Kat2Kat Peer Counseling Program is to provide students with an impartial resource from which they can attain financial independence through education and counseling services designed and implemented from the student's perspective. 


The Kat2Kat Peer Counseling program originated under the umbrella of the Student Money Management Center in an effort to provide SHSU students with an unbiased financial planning service implemented and executed by fellow students.

Services We Provide

The Kat2Kat Peer Counseling Program is a financial literacy resource that SHSU students can utilize to gain and maintain financial independence. The program offers confidential, individualized financial planning sessions with trained, peer financial counselors. The peer counselors are current SHSU upperclassmen who are qualified to assist fellow students with a wide variety of financial topics ranging from, but not limited to:

  • Budgeting
  • Good Credit vs. Bad Credit
  • Smart Shopping
  • Identity Theft
  • Saving Money
  • Financial Goals
  • Buying a Car
  • Managing Student Loans
  • Evaluating Employee Benefit Packages

Counseling sessions are by appointment or walk in during designated hours.  There are four easy ways to schedule an appointment:

Walk in hours are Monday-Friday 10:00am-12:00pm & 2:00pm-5:00pm

Services We Do Not Provide

The Kat2Kat Program does NOT provide the following:

  • Investment Advice
  • Referrals to specific financial institutions
  • Loans
  • Tax Advice
