About Me!
Chad acts as the Associate Vice President (AVP) of Research and Sponsored Programs at Sam Houston State University (SHSU). Dr. Hargrave began his academic career at Sam Houston State University as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences in 2006. After earning tenure in 2012, Chad served as chair of his home department. Following a five-year term, Dr. Hargrave accepted his current position with the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs. As a faculty member, Dr. Hargrave maintained constant funding in his research lab. With funding from these grants, he employed over thirty-five undergraduate students and seven graduate students. As AVP, Dr. Hargrave is passionate about finding ways to best support faculty and staff in their scholarly activities, particularly through locating and successfully securing external grant support. To this end, he has overseen the reorganization of the office to include a unit focused on grant development, as well as a more robust submissions group. Additionally, Dr. Hargrave has reimagined positions aimed at growing research services and centers, as well as developing campus-wide research initiatives, such as training programs.

About Me
Clayton Cottle holds both a BS and MS in Criminal Justice Sciences from Illinois State University. He will begin pursuing an MBA in August 2019. Prior to joining the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, Clayton worked in prospect research for Illinois State University.

About Me.
Jessica Ray Herzogenrath, PhD, holds a doctorate in History from Texas A&M University, as well as an MA in American Dance Studies from Florida State University, and a BA in History from Northwestern University. Prior to graduate school she spent several years performing, choreographing, and teaching dance in and around Houston, Texas. Before joining the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, Jessica proudly taught in both the dance and history departments here at Sam Houston State University. This year, she holds the 2018-2019 John S. Aubrey Fellowship from the Newberry Library (Chicago) for her proposed project:
The Doyenne of Chicago Dance: Ann Barzel as Champion, Collector, and Critic.
Jessica also continues work on her book manuscript on dance in early-twentieth-century Chicago, writes for Dance Source Houston, and has begun the National Arts Strategies Executive Program in Arts and Culture Strategy through the University of Pennsylvania. About Me!
Dee Myall came to the Office of Research at Sam Houston State University in 2010 with 18 years of state government experience, primarily in quality assurance, budgeting and grant management in the South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, South Carolina Lieutenant Governor’s Office and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Prior to venturing into state government employment, Dee’s degree in Business Management from Texas A&M-College Station was put to good use immediately after graduation when he managed a family owned electronics sales and service business In Spring, TX.

About Me!
Bryan Mantezoni holds a Bachelor’s degree in Bilingual education from the University of Saint Thomas and he is a certified Legal Assistant in the state of Texas. Prior to ORSP, Bryan was a senior Project Manager who handled multimillion projects over South America and Europe and for the last 7 years he was in charge of IT projects working for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Bryan will begin pursuing his MBA in the year 2020.

About Me!
Sharla Miles originally from Waco, TX, is the Research Compliance Specialist for the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP) at Sam Houston State University (SHSU). She started her position with ORSP in 2008. Sharla coordinates for SHSU’s IRB and IACUC and oversees Export Control and Unmanned Aerial Systems (aka drone) requirements for all grant funded projects. A graduate of Baylor University-Waco and of Sam Houston State University-Huntsville, she is a Certified IRB Professional, which is a nationally-recognize credential.
