Security Tip: Gear Up for National Cybersecurity Awareness Month

October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month! We are excited to join the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA)  and the Cybersecurity Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) again to raise awareness of the importance of cybersecurity. Our goal, as always, is to provide useful resources to help protect SHSU and you against cyberattacks.

This year’s “Stop. Think. Protect” campaign will focus on two main topics:

Orange Icons-29Phishing

SHSU’s biggest cybersecurity threat is when fake emails are sent to scam the recipient by convincing them to provide their personal information

Password Hygiene

Tips to create passwords that cannot be easily guessed by using a combination of numbers, letters and symbols or by using a password manager

Previously, we celebrated National Cybersecurity Awareness Month with a month’s worth of in-person events. This year we will be celebrating virtually by sharing cybersecurity resources and tips on digital signage throughout campus, social media and our website

Additionally, keep an eye out for next month’s newsletter that will be full of cybersecurity information and tips!

NOTICE: Be sure to follow us on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook for your chance to participate in contests, win prizes and learn quick cybersecurity tips and tricks to protect yourself and SHSU.

Year round, you can find updated information on the SHSU Phish Bowl about how to use the “Stop. Think. Protect” strategy, how to report phishing attacks and how to verify phishing scams! All reported SHSU phishing scams go on this site to assist you with protecting yourself and the university. If you receive a suspicious email that is not on this site, report it to and we will take care of the rest!
