“Great things in business are never done by one person, they’re done by a team of people.” – Steve Jobs, former CEO/Co-Founder of Apple Inc. and former CEO of NeXT
Like most new years, January 2020 started out filled with hope for a successful and productive year. Within a few months, however, our university went from the usual exciting buzz to silence while all classes were moved to a virtual format for the spring and summer semesters. Even though this was an unexpected transition for our university, my optimism for the year remained as faculty and staff chose to rise to the occasion by continuing to learn, educate and support the campus community.
In nine months, our Bearkat family not only adapted to a new way of teaching, working and learning, but also made time to serve others. On campus, we collaborated to revamp online and in-person course structures, install new technology and evaluate student housing procedures to ensure that our students could begin the fall semester safely, while still getting the education and college experience they deserve. In addition, various campus faculty and staff came together to make face coverings, provide counseling services and serve as information sources for the community.
I am proud of how far we have come in this short time. This is the year that we overcame overwhelming odds and forged a path to success by continuing to serve and educate.
So, this Thanksgiving, I am thankful for being a part of a university that chooses to work hard and serve its community. Happy Thanksgiving and thank you for being the bright spots on and off campus throughout this year.
