Duo-SecurityCyber-attacks against businesses, government institutions, banks and universities are on the rise. If any attack is successful, it could mean the compromise of your personally identifiable information such as your name, birth date, social security number, and bank account information, just to mention a few.

Sam Houston State University is committed to protecting your data. As a result, we will soon enable two-factor authentication for Banner access. We are still investigating the scope for this new protection, but we want you to have some information on what is coming and give you the opportunity to enroll early.

What is two-factor authentication?

Odds are you are already familiar with two-factor authentication if you use online banking. Most banks will send a text message if they notice that you are logging in from an "unknown" device to verify that it is you making the attempt.

Two-factor authentication adds an additional layer of security to your login credentials by requiring a second device (like your smartphone) to verify your identity. This prevents anyone from logging in to Banner, even with a compromised password.

How does it work?

Two-factor authentication is simple.

two factor process model, log in, approve session, proceed as usual

How do I get started?

  1. Download Duo Security app (Google Play or Apple App Store).
  2. Enroll from your desktop computer.
