Office 365 Email: Migration Information

The time is near! Your SHSU email account is moving to the cloud.  (For a recap, take a look the newsletter article that started it all) 

To Do List icon What do I need to do? 
  You will receive an email from the IT@Sam Service Desk with the following subject line: Action Required: SHSU Email Accountlisting the official migration date of your SHSU email account. On your migration date, due to the amount of email accounts being moved, please begin using the Outlook Web App to check your email. Once your email account is on the cloud, the look of the website will change (example below) and you can proceed with the following actions.

  • Example: Outlook's New Online Design

    Microsoft Outlook updated their email application design for their cloud platform. After your SHSU email account moves to the cloud, your Outlook Web Access should have the below layout:

Next, even though we prepared everything we could to make this transition as seamless for you as possible, you must complete one or more of the below actions after your account is updated.

  • Students
    • Outlook Web App: Clear your cache to ensure you are automatically redirected to the new Office 365 Outlook website from mail.shsu.edu to access your email.
    • Mobile Email Applications: Update your email account on your Apple (Outlook or Mail app)or Android (Outlook or Email app) device.
    • Windows Outlook: Simply re-enter your password when prompted.
    • Mac Outlook: Delete and re-add your email account.
  • Faculty/Staff
    • Mobile Email Applications: Update your email account on your Apple (Outlook or Mail app)or Android (Outlook or Email app) device.
    • Outlook Web App: Clear your cache to ensure you are automatically redirected to the new Office 365 Outlook website from mail.shsu.edu to access your email.
    • Windows Outlook: Simply re-enter your password when prompted.
    • Mac Outlook: Delete and re-add your email account.
    • Zoom Calendar: Reset Zoom integration with your Outlook calendar.
    • Jabber Chat Transcripts: Reset Cisco Jabber's server settings if you want the Outlook “Cisco Jabber Chats” folder to continue archiving your chat conversations.
  • Retirees
    • Outlook Web App: Clear your cache to ensure you are automatically redirected to the new Office 365 Outlook website from mail.shsu.edu to access your email.
    • Mobile Email Applications: Update your email account on your Apple (Outlook or Mail app)or Android (Outlook or Email app) device.
    • Windows Outlook: Simply re-enter your password when prompted.
    • Mac Outlook: Delete and re-add your email account.
  • Alumni
    • Outlook Web App: Clear your cache to ensure you are automatically redirected to the new Office 365 Outlook website from mail.shsu.edu to access your email.
    • Mobile Email Applications: Update your email account on your Apple (Outlook or Mail app)or Android (Outlook or Email app) device.
    • Windows Outlook: Simply re-enter your password when prompted.
    • Mac Outlook: Delete and re-add your email account.

Info-small Anything else I need to be aware of?

With this upgrade, you will experience the below changes to your email account:

  • Email Forwarding Offsite: Automatic email rules that forward email to an offsite address will no longer work. You can still manually forward emails to an offsite address by clicking the forward button.
  • Synced Contacts: Contacts that are synced from Exchange to your phone may temporarily disappear but will come back once you re-add your email account back to your phone.
