International Business and Economics in Japan
The International Business and Economics in Japan program lets students experience and learn about the rich Japanese culture. Students will gain exposure to the Japanese economy and businesses, visit historic sites, and learn about Japanese history. Students will also enhance their career opportunities by gaining exposure to the Japanese business environment, and broader understanding of the global business environment. SHSU students will have opportunities for intercultural experiences through meeting and interacting with Japanese students and faculty at Toyo Gakuen University in Tokyo.

- ECON 4360: International Field Studies in Economics
- ECON 4085: Special Topics: Readings in Japanese Economics
Minimum GPA of 3.0, 50 completed hours, and must have taken ECON 2300, ECON 2301, or ECON 2302 and permission of the instructor.
Students will stay in a hotel during the program which will be arranged by Toyo Gakuen University in central Tokyo. Hotel is within walking distance of the university or students may opt to utilize public transportation (the metro train system) for daily travel to class.
Students will be responsible for purchasing their own tickets on a group flight specified by the faculty leader.
$2,000 (including a $300 non-refundable deposit)
Includes: housing accommodations, filed trips and special activities, guest lecturers from business professionals and academic experts, Japanese lunches on days we are on-campus, and subway/train expenses for out of school-related travel.
Not Included: Airfare, tuition & fees (summer semester)*, $200 study abroad service fee, some meals, spending money, books and supplies, health insurance
*Note: Faculty-led, out-of-country courses do not charge 3 fees: Rec Center, Student Center and Health Center=$275, as opposed to on-campus courses.
Applications accepted on rolling basis until program is filled.
PROGRAM PAYMENT DEADLINE
- $300 non-refundable deposit due within 1 week of acceptance into program (assessed upon acceptance)
- $500 payment due February 10th (assessed Feb. 5th)
- $500 payment due March 10th (assessed Mar. 5th)
- $700 Remaining Program Balance due May 10th (assessed May 5th)
