Overview
The Graduate Writing Lab is a space that provides resources for research, exam review, presentation or project prep, and general community. The lab is currently equipped with six computer stations and can accommodate additional members for group sessions. Basic supplies and free printing services are available. The Graduate Writing Lab is located in the Arleigh B. Templeton Building – Room 106.

When is the Graduate Writing Lab open for usage?
The lab is open Monday through Friday, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. The lab will be closed on weekends.

Who is authorized to use the lab?
The lab is available to all currently enrolled SHSU graduate students, regardless of program, assignment, or project.

Is the lab reserved for those writing theses or dissertations?
The writing lab is not “just for writing.” The lab is a controlled space that provides students a calm and quiet setting to complete a range of tasks.

Do I have to schedule an appointment?
Due to COVID-19 distancing restrictions, appointments will be necessary for the foreseeable future. Appointment guidelines will be released as more information becomes available.

Are supplies available?
Basic supplies are available (writing utensils, notepads, dry erase materials, printing, etc.).

May I bring my own computer and supplies?
Please feel free to bring your own supplies. Power outlets are provided for electronics charging.

Is there a printing limit?
Printing is limited to no more than 25 pages per day, per individual. Please utilize the library for larger printing needs.

Are there additional amenities?
The lab is equipped with a large whiteboard for individual and group collaboration. Supplies for resume and cover letter production, binding, and organizing are available. Noise canceling headphones are also available.

Can I receive writing, editing, and formatting assistance?
The writing lab simply serves as a space for students to work. For advanced writing needs, students should access the Academic Success Center or the Newton Gresham Library on main campus or the Woodlands Center.
