We are pleased to provide a virtual community for SHSU graduate students, especially our online and distance learners. The community allows you to interact with the Graduate School staff, peer groups, and other campus personnel. You can also find news, updates, and event information. To access the community, log into Blackboard and locate the Thesis, Dissertation, & Support Resources page under the Courses tab and the My Organizations section.
The Graduate School is fully committed to your success. We work passionately to assist students in meeting academic, research, and writing goals and deadlines. The following services are open to all SHSU graduate students, regardless of program or completion track. Whether you have to study for an exam, work on a course paper, or make progress on your thesis, dissertation, or capstone assignment, we encourage you to attend our support events. We also provide individual consultations to those seeking goal-setting support. Read more about each service below. We’d love to work with you!
The Graduate School is always here for you, even after hectic work days. Writing Sessions are brief, weekday accountability events that offer assisted writing, goal-setting, and debriefs. Writing specialists, tutors, and academic coaches are on-hand.
Never feel unmotivated or alone again. Writing Recharges are designed to provide a boost of motivation and help you continue working on that assignment you’ve been stuck on. Here, you may pass your paper off to a peer so that someone else can review it. Writing Recharges allow for one-on-one sessions and group collaboration.
Have you been searching for a space to concentrate on your writing – one that’s distraction free? If so, writing retreats are for you. Writing specialists, tutors, and academic coaches are available to help scholars navigate personal and scholastic challenges. Retreats also include goal-setting and work periods.

International Student Workshop
In collaboration with the Office of International Programs, the Graduate School hosts workshops to assist with written assignments, presentation skills, and other academic needs. Students also receive semester-long events and resource calendars.
Things are (a bit) slower during the summer months. If you strive to make great progress on those assignments you’ve been meaning to devote more time to, summer support days are where you need to be. Writing specialists, tutors, and academic coaches are available for one-on-one aid. We also partake in whole-group wellness check-ins.
