In celebration of National Diversity Day, the Office of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion hosts an annual Longest Table Luncheon for the SHSU campus community. The Longest Table Luncheon aims to evaluate each participant’s SHSU experience in regards to inclusion by assessing if;
- Employees/students feel respected
- Employees/students experience a sense of belonging
- Employees/students are empowered to contribute to campus processes
- Employees/students have a fair chance of progressing their careers/education
Annually, the focus group luncheon creates space for all participants to feel safe to contribute candidly with respect for other viewpoints and experiences. The Longest Table’s event principles are rooted in contribution, confidentiality, and candor; while simultaneously encouraging inclusivity, belonging, kindness, and civility. This free event models the example of an inclusive environment where peers, thought leaders, and subject matter experts build community with each other at 1 continuous table for rich dialogue across diverse perspectives.
