Amy Smith joins the bearkat family from the University of Kansas where she earned her PhD while serving as a graduate teaching assistant and clinical supervisor. Dr. Smith has over a decade of clinical experience in pediatric medicine as both a child life specialist and music therapist. She has worked in the Houston Medical center and in Melbourne Australia. While in Houston, Dr. Smith started the Music Therapy program at Texas Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Smith has publications in both music therapy and nursing journals and is currently the PI for a grant funded research project at Texas Children’s Hospital investigating a music intervention for infants with chronic lung disease.  Her current research involves music interventions with very preterm infants in the NICU. Dr. Smith is also a vocalist with a research interest in vocal health, especially relating to the professional voice use of music therapists. She has collaborated with otolaryngologists and speech therapists in the care and rehabilitation of voice injuries.
