Dr. Rebecca Hamlin graduated from Sam Houston State University with a Ph.D. in Forensic Clinical Psychology completing her internship with the Federal Bureau of Prisons at the Federal Medical Center Carswell. She is a Life Member of the Sam Houston State University Alumni Association. Dr. Hamlin is in private practice in Spring, Texas maintaining a clinical practice as well as providing forensic services to the courts. She serves as Adjunct Facility to the SHSU Department of Psychology and has the pleasure of working with a number of graduate students in this program as a practicum supervisor. Prior to obtaining her doctorate, she worked for United States Catholic Conference Migration and Refugee Services, in hospital-based Human Resources, and owned an Executive Search company for more than 15 years with a focus on identifying and recruiting medical doctors for universities, hospitals, and research organizations.
Dr. Hamlin also responds with TX-1 DMAT, and is the Disaster Response Network Co-coordinator for the Texas Psychological Association (TPA), the TPA representative to the Texas Disaster Behavioral Health Services Consortium, past State Mental Health Co-advisor for the American Red Cross as well as Mental Health Co-chair for the Greater Houston Area Chapter. She has been awarded both a Texas Psychological Association (TPA) Presidential Citation as well as the TPA 2011 Outstanding Contribution to Public Service Award for her efforts in these areas. As a mental health professional, she has responded to national and local incidents since 2005 including Katrina, Rita, Ike, Gustav, multi-fatality incidents, pan-flu exercises, tornadoes, wildfires, local structural fires, and flooding. She has also provided consultation to local and state governmental organizations as well as to universities for disaster planning.
Dr. Hamlin is married to Mr. Jeffrey Hamlin who retired as System Senior Director of Human Resource Services after a 32-year career with this organization. Jeff currently serves as Chairman of the Board for Smart Financial Credit Union. He also serves on the Benefits Committee of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston as well as the HR Committee of the Board of Directors of San Jose Clinic in Houston, Texas. The Hamlins have three children and three grandchildren.
