The Department of Physiology and Pharmacology empowers future physicians through high-impact education and collaborative research. Our faculty are accomplished educators and investigators who integrate their scholarly work directly into an innovative, systems-based curriculum.

The department is focused on medical education research contributing to the COM’s mission of continual advancement and excellence in medical education, as well as on the health needs of East Texas and medically underserved communities through translational research on chronic disease management and other regionally relevant issues. Faculty develop a powerful multidisciplinary network of regionally and nationally renowned collaborations, providing a dynamic platform for cutting-edge research.

This environment prepares students for lifelong learning, fosters critical thinking and scientific inquiry, and supports career growth in academic and applied healthcare.
