Advancing Medicine Through Biomedical Science, Artificial Intelligence and Digital Health

The Department of Biomedical and Digital Health Intelligence in Clinical Systems, also known as BioMedics, advances the integration of biomedical sciences, artificial intelligence, digital health and clinical informatics across medical education, research and healthcare delivery.

Officially launching Sept. 1, 2026, the department represents a forward-looking step in the continued growth of Sam Houston State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (SHSU-COM). BioMedics will prepare future healthcare leaders through interdisciplinary education, applied innovation and strategic partnerships designed to strengthen clinical decision-making, improve patient outcomes, enhance healthcare operations and support population health, particularly in rural and medically underserved communities.

Areas of Focus

The department will support foundational and applied biomedical science education that prepares students to understand the biological, clinical and technological factors shaping modern medicine.
