Submission Guidelines

We do not accept or read submissions during May, June, July or August.

All submissions should be typed in 12-point font (preferably Times New Roman).

All mailed submissions should be on white paper.

Do not bind or staple manuscripts.

Cover letters are helpful.

Include the author's name and address on the top of the first page of each submission.

Pages must be numbered.

Always include SASE for a response.

We do not consider simultaneous submissions.

Prose should be double-spaced.

Please submit only one short story or nonfiction piece at a time.

Poetry should be single-spaced with only one poem per page.

There are no restrictions on subject matter, form, or length (extremely long pieces are somewhat at a disadvantage--but we have published them in the past and will continue to do so). Anything of excellence is welcome.

Reporting Time

Reporting time varies from one to six months. It may take longer than six months, depending on backlog. We try to respond as quickly as possible, but as with most literary journals, we sometimes get behind. Be assured that all submissions receive our serious consideration.

Payment & Copyright

Payment is in contributor's copies and a one year subscription to The Texas Review. We acquire first North American serial rights; copyright reverts to author upon publication.

Screening Process

Each submission is forwarded to the appropriate editor.
