Distance Tutoring

The Sam Houston Writing Center provides distance tutoring services in writing to students and community members alike.  Our distance program is intended for students not attending on-campus classes.  Our operating hours during the fall and spring semesters are Monday through Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and Sunday 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  Our operating hours during the mini-session and summer sessions are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  If you are on campus during our operating hours, we would request that you visit us in the center for a one-on-one session with a tutor.

E-mail your papers in Microsoft Word format to:

wctr@shsu.edu

If you are an SHSU student, please include your student ID number, class name and number, and your professor’s name.

Please allow at least 48 hours for the Writing Center staff to review your paper. This response time may be longer for lengthy papers or if you submit the paper on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. If you would like, call (936) 294-3681 to confirm that the staff has received your paper.

Using Microsoft Word allows us to use the "comment" feature throughout the text of your paper.  The Writing Center tutors will provide a critique and suggest ways of revising, editing, and formatting your written work.  Please provide information regarding the purpose and audience of the paper and any other specifics that may help the tutors.
